Solar Panel Cleaning

Solar panels lose efficiency as dust, pollen, bird droppings, and traffic film build up on the glass surface. Research suggests dirty panels can lose 5-25% of their output depending on local pollution levels and panel angle. While UK rainfall handles some of this naturally, panels on low pitches, near busy roads, under trees, or in areas with heavy bird activity benefit from professional cleaning at least once a year.

Professional cleaners use deionised or purified water fed through telescopic poles, which avoids the mineral deposits that tap water leaves behind and means no scaffolding is needed in most cases. A typical domestic clean costs £80-200 per visit, or roughly £4-8 per panel, and takes 30-60 minutes. The best time to clean is late spring after pollen season and before peak summer generation.
